Metal is generally more wind-resistant than asphalt, but it is not immune. On exposed-fastener panels, wind backs out or shears screws along the edges and the panel begins to lift and oil-can; on standing seam, failure is usually at a clip or at the ridge. Across both, the edges and penetrations go first.
Salt-laden air near the Gulf and the Atlantic is hard on fasteners, flashings and coatings, so specification matters more within sight of the water than it does inland. Ask what coating system is being used, what the fasteners are made of, and what the warranty actually covers in a coastal environment.
